Working in Difficult Situations (Instructor: Bob Shebib)


This workshop will provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills for responding to challenging and difficult situations.

Some of the topics that will be covered are: engaging and motivating resistant clients, Cognitive Behavioural techniques, motivational interviewing, working with clients who have personality disorders, suicide risk assessment and intervention, conflict management, responding to angry and potentially violent clients, understanding mental health and addictions issues, recognizing and avoiding power struggles, working with involuntary clients.

Bob Shebib is an internationally recognized author and facilitator. His recent books, Choices: Interviewing and Counselling Skills for Canadians (4th edition in production, 2009) and its US adaptation - Choices: Counseling Skills for Social Workers and Other Professionals, have been widely adopted and translated for use by universities and colleges throughout Canada and the world.
